Keeree Kanjanapas, Chairman of BTS Group Holdings Plc., voices his concerns for doctors and nurses around the country who are on the frontlines working hard to battle the COVID-19 pandemic and safe lives. Given the uncertainty as to when the crisis will subside, Keeree notes that having followed the situation closely, medical personnel are the most crucial actors in the fight against the virus; they and their families deserve the respect, protection, and support to feel safe and secure to provide the necessary care during this trying time.

“I have received information from the Medical Association of Thailand (MAT) about “The White gown warriors fighting against COVID-19 campaign” which aims to establish a fund to provide life insurance for around 280,000 doctors and nurses across the country. The scheme will require THB 50mn  to provide one-year coverage. While most medical personnel in Thailand do have life insurance, not everyone is covered. Therefore, our cooperation with MAT in providing life insurance to all health workers at the frontlines of the COVID-19 battle is done as a token of goodwill with the aim to lift up their spirits.

“In fact, in hospitals across the country, there are over 100,000 health workers other than doctors and nurses who are also at risk of contracting the virus – be they practical nurses (under a 1-year programme), radiological technologists, and medical technologists. I have requested MAT to coordinate with hospitals to provide their information as these personnel also deserve to be protected. I will provide an additional THB 10mn to sponsor life insurance for them as well.”

As a Thai citizen, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude and appreciation to all the 300,000 plus doctors, nurses and healthcare workers who are selflessly working hard to provide vital care for patients who have contracted the COVID-19 virus. Through my support for this campaign, I wish to send a message to all the medical personnel at the forefront of the battle that the Thai people are here to support them. Together, we will get through this,” Keeree ended.
